Nobody could figure out who had made the image, but we were all so excited by it that we had to pass it around! We’ve added a credit to you on our site:
Great Job!! Originally saw the Batman V Shark on Rachel Maddow’s blog site which gave a link to the back story. I hope the little kid enjoyed it as much as us geeky Gen-X’ers
The only thing the viewer doesn’t see is The Ring from LotR, the Case from Pulp Fiction, and Indiana Jones Fedora sitting at the back of the shark’s throat! Oh did I forget to mention a bomb made of the binary explosive from Die Hard III counting down 10… 9…
Epic artwork, would make an awesome wallpaper or a wall poster! Good Job!
Hi Matt, this will not be available as a poster unless I can work out some kind of a deal with DC Comics and LucasFilm. It goes without saying that this probably will not happen. If, for some magical reason, it does, I will post information that second on this site.
How did you get this inside information, Wolven? This was going to be included on the bonus feature DVD that accompanies the artwork, coming out this summer! We scored Tiger Woods as narrator/host! (he works REAL cheap now!) But now that the cat’s outta the bag, the project is off!
I think he did, but unless the internet viewers put their Batman costumes on and ran around the house pretending to fight their dog after they saw it, the end reaction was WAY different.
Hey, so is there a way to get this on a t-shirt? It is too awesome not to! I guess I can make my own on something like zazzle.com, but I don’t know the protocol for that. Don’t want to step on any toes.
Unfortunately, any merchandise featuring this image is currently held up because of the trademarked character, and possibly weapon (can George Lucas own a beam of light?). I will post updates on the site if anything develops regarding possible merchandise or prints.
So the shark has a lightsaber, and batman is just borrowing it?
Because the title says, “Batman vs. Shark with Lightsaber” and I honestly think it should read, “Batman with Lightsaber vs Shark”
But I could be wrong art is supposed to be open to interpretation .
Sherman, the Batman painting, along with several others on the site, was done digitally. This was actually my first ever digital painting. I use Photoshop and Corel Painter pretty exclusively, along with a Wacom pressure sensitive drawing tablet. After I have the final drawing completed, I scan it into Photoshop to do preliminary work and blocking in of values. I then load it into Painter to do most of the actual “painting.” Any other final adjustments are made in Photoshop for the final illustration.
If anyone reading this is interested in learning more about the digital painting process, I recommend a magazine called Imagine FX, which is completely dedicated to this kind of work. You can find it at pretty much any major bookstore.
I hope you don’t kill me but I thought this was almost the coolest thing I’d ever seen. So I added a strip of bacon via bacolicious and now I have my new FB icon! Incredible illustration.

Why didn’t he just use the Bat-Shark-Repellent?
Is there anyway that I could buy this as a poster?

He built it into the lightsaber. The shark is trying to get away, but Batman has him caught in his mighty, awkwardly posed leg grab.

Just kidding (obviously!)

Awesome! Thanks Bob!

Do lightsabers work underwater? DOH!!
Batman has to do the job of Aquaman and a certain Jedi….
Surely it should be “Batman with lightsaber vs. shark”. The shark doesn’t have a lightsaber

I must own it. Is there anything I can do to help you sell this? I’ll send a letter to DC and LucasArts if you want. Anything.
I keep checking in to see if any progress has been made toward getting these on the market. Anything yet?
I’m sorry Sandy, no developments on Batman Vs. Shark prints.
